Will this increase my download and upload speed?

Hi all how are you? i have a broadband connection with the utility warehouse and i am meant to be geting 20mbs download, but because i live far away from the exchange point i am only getting 4mbs. my isp told me nothing was capped reguarding the speed so would buying a better router increase my speeds? i currently have a thompson tg585v7 and it is.......... well its rubbish lol. i am thinking about getting a Netgear WPN824 RangeMax MIMO Wireless Router tomorow it looks pretty good.
