Was my test broken? Halfway between positive and negative??!?

So I took an ept brand home pregnancy test, because I had a short light period that was three days later than it should've been. I had unprotected sex every day from June 9- June 16 so if I am pregnant I'm not far along at all. The test looked negative, but at a closer glance, you can see little specks of ink darkened above one half of the line. So on one side of the negative sign, there is nothing, on the other there are little specks, like pixels or something (how it looks) they only go in a vertical line. It sort of makes half a cross, but there isn't a faint line, just those specks of ink on the strip. Is this a positive in any way? I'm freaking out, but I think it was a negative and the test was just messed up. Did this happen to anyone else and they ended up pregnant?
