Why are yaoi couples in Hitman Reborn classified with numbers?

Whenever I see pairings and stuff for Katekyo Hitman Reborn, the pairings are classified with numbers, i.e. 1827 for Hibari and Tsuna. Can anyone explain to me where these numbers are from?
